Draft Pick – Ace Hood

Tis’ the season for rappers to come out of hiatus and showcase how hard they were grinding in the winter. While Ace Hood hasn’t been a prominent name in the hip-hop industry for awhile, and hasn’t had a charting single since 2013, so needless to say he’s looking to make a comeback. A few weeks a go I posted his single The Type, and it sounds like we’re in for more of the same with this hubristic release.

With expertly delivered lyrics, and a flow that has yet to be copied, it’s no wonder why Ace is still able to pull hundreds of thousands of plays on seemingly effortless creations. ‘Draft Pick’ was released in sync with the NFL draft last week, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that these well-versed lyrics are centered around the Florida native’s rise to fame, fortune, and being everyone’s “number one draft pick.”

The production is a simple, hyphy beat from Miami’s Smash David, who’s also been handling Jason Derulo’s material for the past few months. It’s a good song, and as per usual it’s a free DL, so cop it if you like what you hear and show Ace some love on Soundcloud and Twitter.

The Type – Ace Hood

The Type - Ace Hood

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard new material from Ace Hood, but hopefully he’s still relevant enough to where I don’t need to introduce him to y’all — he’s the one who’s single, Bugatti feat. Future and Rick Ross, blew up way back in 2013. That being said, he hasn’t done too much since then. He dropped the fourth installation of his Starvation series, as well as a project called ‘Beast Mix’ which was taken down from basically every streaming service because it recycled instrumentals from billboard charting songs.

‘The Type’ features production from Murder Beats, and is basically just two and a half minutes of Ace Hood killing bar after bar. We’ve always thought Ace was an underrated artist who’s shine faded with his hit single, and hopefully this is evidence that 2016 will be the year he comes back into the game swinging. He raps about his designer lifestyle, the day-to-day hustle,  keeping it real, and pushing himself to go and get what’s coming to him.

Regardless of what “type” you are, if you like clever lyrics and expert delivery this track will have you vibing. Check it out and be sure to throw Ace Hood a follow on Soundcloud and Twitter if you like what you hear.

Starvation 4 – Ace Hood (Mixtape)

Ace Hood is a name you should be familiar with by now; the Florida based rapper has a unique auto-tuned trap flow that has attributed to numerous chart-topping singles like Bugatti and Hustle Hard. We’ve been sharing Ace Hood’s music for awhile now, but his “Starvation” series has long been overlooked. It all started with a mixtape he dropped in 2012, and over 3 years later the last Starvation project is finally here, and man did Ace do it right. With production from Sonny Digital and Ben Billions, it’s clear that Ace Hood wanted to make sure this series went out with a bang. The hard hitting hip-hop production combines with piano progressions and synths to create a dope 11-track project that maintains the integrity of the Ace’s Starvation projects while still implementing fresh lyrics and samples. All in all, it’s not my favorite project from Ace Hood, but there’s definitely a few gems on the track-list such as Mood and Understand. Check it out, and if you like what you hear be sure to throw Ace a follow on Twitter and Soundcloud to show some support.

Clarity – Ace Hood

Ace just announced the 4th installment of his ‘Starvation’ mixtape series, and it’s clear that he’s ready to get back into #BEASTMODE after brief 2-month hiatus. Production from Ray Real  creates an aggressive, bass-heavy environment for Ace Hood to announce his return to the booth, flow about the money he’s been stacking, and clear up any confusion as to who’s running the Miami rap scene. If you haven’t already go ahead and check out his last release with Ty Dolla $ign, cop the free download, and show Ace some love on Soundcloud and Twitter.

Pain – Ace Hood

It’s been a minute since we’ve had a little fresh Ace on the site and I don’t think there’s a better time to change that with this very powerful message regarding the murder of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and police brutality in general. This heavily bass laden instrumental is produced by The Order and gets its ominous vibe from the reverberate bass which seem to be muted just a tad. The instrumental reflects Ace’s attitude toward the issue, beyond hurt and ready to lash back out at their tormentors. Ace Hood is known as “the people’s rapper”, and he makes it a point to make the people’s voice heard. Which his does quite literally in this song. Whatever side of this on going argument you fall on give this track a shot, we may not all agree but we should be able to realize and sympathize with our brothers and sisters when the are in “Pain”.

Vado tends to come through with these heavily featured hood anthems, and today I stumbled upon this one which was so graciously given away by We The Best music group. Dollar Bill Kidz produced this strange banger making sure the track had plenty of breakdowns, heavily laid synth, hard bass, and lots of claps. Which each of these artist’s easily makes their own, displaying lyrical prowess that can only be expected from such familiar names in the game. Altogether you get two phenomenal verses from Vado and 2 Chainz, a catchy hook from Chinx Drugz, and one of my favorite verses from 2 Chainz this year. Check it out.
