Alt-J was my go-to-artist during finals week my first semester of college, and I’ve been yearning to share his vibe-setting indie vocals with y’all ever since I started the site. NICITA and I clearly have similar tastes, because the last time I posted him on the site he had remixed another indie-favorite of mine Paris by Magic Man. His rendition of Breezeblocks is perfectly balanced; intricate and intense percussion work is the highlight of the track, bouncing and reverberating in perfect time with Alt-J’s vocals. The subtle differences are what really drew me in though, the ambient piano and sort of doppler effect samples augment the instrumental beautifully. Although he supplemented the bass line and notorious guitar rift, everything he did sounds completely coherent with the original vocals. Check it out, give NICITA a follow on soundcloud and twitter, and check out the original Alt-J track here.

“Dalliance” is another word for one-night-stands, short meaningless love affairs that don’t leave a scar, passionless and amatory relationships. I’ve been moving through the motions a lot lately, but acoustic/folk music like this has always helped me suspend time, it taps into your emotional side and provokes rumination. If your sentences have been tied with “had” and “have” knots, if you’ve been itching to get away from the same sites and safe sights, take the scenic route home today and let yourself escape to this mesmerizing compilation. 9 tracks, 9 artists, some covers, some originals, acoustic, not-so-acoustic, and 37 minutes of arcadian bliss. Ease your mind and enjoy.
