Last April we introduced our fans to Black COAL, but since then we’ve really slept on this trio of talented DMV artists as they’ve been making serious moves. Today I ran into this track (which pays homage to the hustlers in the popular 2002 film Paid In Full), but unlike the last release we brought to our students: this one is definitely more catchy. MJ Drama engineered this beat and although he takes a simplistic route with this one, it allows COAL to come in and easily put their incredible lyricism on display. For a little over three minute they lyrically cut this beat to ribbons, and once you add in a dope little hook your looking at the newest addition to your party playlist. Hit that play button, cop the free download, follow Black COAL on twitter and/or soundcoud if you haven’t already.

Rap trio and DMV collective Black C.O.A.L hit our inbox yesterday and decided to flex their lyrical muscles on an unconventional instrumental in their newest release “Big Trouble”. Although I’m unfamiliar with the sample they used, the beat sounds like a choir of children resonating with a female lead all on top of a crazy drum solo. Despite the peculiar choice in instrumental these three DMV natives hold their own as they miraculously ride the beat for over three minutes. All three have a unique sound behind the microphone and come out swinging, all offering up a few punchlines to call their own in this free release. Although I wouldn’t consider the song itself catchy, it’s definitely memorable and worth a few listens to appreciate the lyricism. Hit that play button one time and if your feeling this make sure to show some love to this promising hip-hop group via soundcloud and/or twitter.
