Man oh man, Chelsea Cutler just doesn’t let up on these intoxicating acoustic covers. The young singer from Connecticut might look small in stature, but her voice is big enough to shine through thick and heavy instrumentals like the one she produced for this Flume/Flatbush Zombies cover. The song she’s covering throughout the majority of the track is actually a remix that Flume did of Collarbone’s Turning, which is a super trippy, repetitive, alternative-indie-experimental single. Her distinct voice has such a natural flow to it; every word is enunciated immaculately, and her vocals illuminate the song as she harmonizes with herself over the guitar-centered production. The ambient sound she achieved on this release is a far cry from what was done on the original two tracks, but if you have any appreciation for indie music you’ll enjoy Chelsea Cutler’s ‘Harley Trees’. If you grab the free download, be a good fan and follow her on Soundcloud and Twitter.

Last time these Beast Coast representers were on the site was for a track titled “Drug Parade” featuring Danny Brown, now they’re back again with their newest release “Don’t Do Drugs Kids” which is clearly as sarcastic as it is odd. The choppy, haunted instrumental is courtesy of the Zombies own Erik Ark Elliot and is part of their new “Day Of The Dead” series which seems to be happening every Friday for the foreseeable future. Unlike their previous appearance on the site, this track show cases the groups ability to ride a beat and the versatility in the style of each individual artist. With that being said, the lyricism is still as trippy and horrifying as ever. Hit that play button one time and remember kids, don’t do anything we wouldn’t do.

Brooklyn hip-hop collective and new face to University Hype Flatbush ZOMBiES released their “BetterOffDEAD” mixtape earlier this week and although most of the sounds are poorly mixed, mastered, and hard to understand this track featuring Danny Brown is definitely a diamond in the rough. Here at UH we don’t condone substance abuse but we do practice from time to time, which is why this probably sounded like music to my ears. This song sounds like the Macy’s Christmas parade on LSD, and with a chorus that simply lists off different desirable substances this is a song specifically for the trippy kids. Press play, you know you want to.
