Progressive R&B is the only way I can think to describe Gallant’s uniquely emotional sound, and even that sounds like a bit of an understatement. His voice can reach unfathomably high notes, but somehow even as he peaks into higher octaves his vocals retain a fine scotch smoothness that goes down oh-so-easily. As he softly breathes out the first verse, the experimental production from renowned LA producer Stint provides the perfect synth-heavy backtracking to compliment the power behind each metaphor. The ambient sound bursts into an ecstasy packed chorus, creating a strong yet classy finale. Although he decided to sell his debut Zebra EP rather than release it for free, Gallant started his career and built his fan base off of free releases, and it’s good to see he’s getting back to his roots and giving us some downloadable content again. Cop it before he decides to monetize it, follow him on twitter, and check out some of his earlier material if you’re new to this talented young artist.

Gallant dropped his Felix Snow produced EP Zebra today, and since I already posted 5 out of the 9 tracks this is the only one you really need to hear. His entire project is full of top notch production paired with room-filling R&B vocals. Every track has a personal meaning, which he emphasized in an interview with Billboard “Most of the lyrics and themes came from pages of old journals and voice notes… feelings of guilt and loneliness… admission of regret and anxiety… all the stuff that’s still difficult for me to talk about in the real world but easy to let bleed out on paper…. or scream into a mic in a dark, soundproofed room,”. He’s honestly a lot like The Weeknd, but with less shallow lyrics and more of Snow’s dreamy soundscapes. Enjoy the track, check out the rest of his material, and give Gallant a follow on twitter.

Let me start by saying this is my favorite song from Gallant so far. I’ve been keeping up with all of his free releases since I first heard his single Manhattan last Winter, and as his portfolio has augmented, his style has matured from reverb-heavy R&B to a more professional crisp sound. This is the first release from Gallant that he hasn’t enlisted the help of Felix Snow, although the two seemingly went hand in hand. Instead, he recruited Maths Time Joy, a UK based singer and producer. The beat itself is amazing; a catchy-whistle tune paired with a glossy drum-beat keeps things progressing over countless intricately placed instruments. But as per usual, the best instrument on this track is Gallant’s vocals; flexing his range and lyricism throughout the entire 4 and a half minute melody. The hook made me think of that over-played Train song ‘Drops of Jupiter’, he uses the planet fading away as an analogy for missed opportunities and love he lost. All the ingredients are here for a good love-making track, so cop the free download and slow things down in the bedroom tonight; I promise you won’t regret either.

“and I was blaming you– an ego so inflated, and red infatuation so strong, decades overdue… regretting all the patience. I’m sorry that I waited too long. So if jupiter is finally fading out this time, let the fairytales we wrote about go black and white…”

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from R&B singer Gallant, but after checking up on his soundcloud this morning I found a brand new single to share with y’all. Felix Snow is still producing all of Gallant’s ambient instrumentals, but the emotion of this track is all accredited to Gallant’s distant yet powerful vocals. Love songs might not be your cup of tea, but I bet your girl swoons over tracks like these all day, especially with the message hidden in the lyrics of this track. Gallant only sings 12 lines, but in that he asks a girl to forfeit her bad past and mistakes, asks her to vent to him and let him make things better, and admits to being as low as she was before. Poetic lyrics, perfect production, and angelic vocals make a panty-dropping concoction that needs to be on your ‘Good Lovin’ playlist asap.

Download Die Young - Gallant

I stumbled upon this talented LA based R&B singer this morning and instantly became a fan of his reverb heavy style. After copping a few free downloads on his soundcloud I decided I should share not only his newest installment ‘Manhattan’ but also a mesmerizing cover of Ke$ha’s ‘Die Young’ that makes the song more than bearable. The collaboration between Gallant’s distant lyrics and Felix Snow’s pearlescent instrumentals has a calming vibe that I think everyone can relate to. Check him out on soundcloud and give him a follow on twitter.
