Have you ever listened to a song and thought, “Man, this song is great, but a saxophone/trumpet solo would really make this song better.” If not, it’s cool, you probably wouldn’t know what to do with a brass instrument if you had one anyways. Thankfully, Brasstracks is a team of incredibly talented brass players and percussionists, and they’ve been adding flavor to tasty tracks for over two years now.

A lot of their material is on iTunes, so I haven’t been able to share them with y’all until just now. Thankfully this collab with Jay Prince was a free drop, and it’s as awesome as it can be. An expertly produced brass line up erupts over some organic percussion — make sure you catch the sick drum solo at 2:15 — making a perfect setting for the London based rapper to flow over. Jay Prince first came across our radar when we started keeping up with the Soulection collective, and since then he’s grown into his potential in a huge way. The majority of his songs have over 100,000 plays on soundcloud, and his following has been growing across the globe.

Both of these artists are great musicians all around, and I highly recommend you give both Brasstracks and Jay Prince a follow on Soundcloud if you like what you hear.

Take Your Time – Jay Prince

Free Download | Take Your Time - Jay Prince

Jay Prince’s sound is — in one word — refreshing. Take Your Time showcases the distinct rap delivery, complex and organic production, and artistic arrangements that have come to define Jay’s music. Somewhere between jazz, hip-hop, electronic, blues, and R&B you have this somewhat mysterious musician who’s been making leaps in his career over the past year. His association with the Soulection collective has brought about a world of intricately melded instrumentals, uniquely formatted to his style. Don’t take my word for it, give the track a listen and show some support for an underrated artist via soundcloud and twitter.

This is that future bass. This project is what progressive music is all about. Artist collective Soulection partnered with clothing brand Stussy to put together a compilation that reflects the cultures of both companies and “brings visibility to the future sound.” Twenty different artists are showcased on this compilation; synths, a little reggae-dub, ambient, bass, and hip-hop are just some of the flavors you’ll get a taste of. While all the artists have their own unique style, they each possess an ultra chill ambient vibe to give the compilation the cohesive flow that makes it so pleasing to listen to. Perfect for wake ‘n bake, summertime cruisin, and relaxation. On the mix you’ll find Red Bull Music Academy grad Ta-ku, Mr. Carmack, Jarreau Vandal (who did an ultra jazzy remix of G-Eazy’s Let’s Get Lost), Sango, GoldLink, along with even more underground gems that you may not have heard of before. Hop on that future bass wave and coast. You can download the compilation for free from Bandcamp or donate a few dollars if you’re feeling generous.

Stwo left us on a hot an heavy note after he dropped his remix of Or Nah, but this time he works off of Jay Prince’s track Stay On My Cool, which was just too good by itself to not include in this post. The original track is super mellow, saxophone and congo-drums setva surprisingly chill pace for Jay Prince’s quick rhymes. His style is so fresh and creative that I’m surprised I haven’t stumbled upon him before, but now that I’ve listened to his whole Mellow Vation project (which you can download/stream after the jump) I can honestly say I’m a fan. His uniquely smooth project inspired our familiar producer stwo to do some even more relaxed edits to his favorite track on the project. Ambient synth, filtered vocals, and a subtle bass wobble give the track a dreamy coating that only he could produce, although some of Jay Prince’s funky R&B vibes are lost in the process. Regardless, both tracks are free, so there’s no reason not to cop both of them; give Jay and Stwo a follow on twitter.
