Incase y’all forgot, it’s Yeezy season. Kanye has been making waves with these cuts from his forthcoming project — which coincidentally is now titled ‘WAVES’ instead of ‘SWISH’. The rapper turned fashion designer has been blowing up on Twitter after he went on a rant about Wiz Khalifa, but he made sure to assure his fans that his focus is still on finalizing ‘WAVES’.

This is the first taste we’re getting of the new Kanye, and it’s worlds better than what we were expecting. The production is much more ear-pleasing than the experimental blasphemous monstrosity that he released in 2013, and the lyricism is much more in-tune with the contemplative ‘Ye that we grew to love over the last decade. The feature from label affiliate Ty Dolla $ign is fitting; his R&B vocals are scattered throughout the track, but his voice and delivery is an essential relief from the intriguing, but otherwise repetitive beat.

Whether you like it or not, Kanye is going to make millions off of this album. Kanye is going to make millions no matter what he touches, because he’s Kanye. He might dub himself a genius, and you might disagree, but the fact is that he’s an icon — if he can get Yeezus to top charts, this more palatable style will definitely go Platinum. I shouldn’t have to tell you to follow Kanye on Twitter and Soundcloud, but if you care at all about pop culture you should do it.

All Day (Kanye West Cover) – Mark Johns & Sweater Beats

All Day

Free Download | Download All Day (Kanye West Cover) - Mark Johns & Sweater Beats

Female vocalist Mark Johns has been making waves lately, linking up with prominent music producers to create original music and sultry renditions of hip-hop hits. This time around, she and Brooklyn’s Sweater Beats crafted their own synthy version of “All Day” by Kanye West. They trade heavy bass and trap production for modern electric guitar and Mark’s smooth and full vocals. The cover’s still got its own edge, but it’s not quite as dark and abrasive as the original. It’s a beautiful medley of electronic and rock music, a track that I wanna bump as I’m cruisin’ down the street with my clique. Grab the free download while it’s hot and check out more of Mark Johns on Soundcloud if you like what you hear.

Flashing Lights – Kanye West (TWRK Remix)

Download Flashing Lights - Kanye West (TWRK Remix)

Instead of hitting us with another remix off of Yeezus, DJ/producer duo TWRK (Benzi and DJ Esentrik) went back a few years in the Kanye vault to bring new life to Flashing Lights, one of my favorite tracks from Kanye’s 2007 album Graduation. The strings and synths combo worked perfectly with Dwele’s smooth vocals in the original, but this remix brings it to a whole new level. Kicks and snaps drive the backbeat while the bass pumps hard. But then TWRK switches it up at 2:14 with a filthy breakdown of chopped vocals, more claps, and big-room bass that really give this remix some originality. You still feel the original essence of Flashing Lights but with some more electronic flavor. They’ve still got a few dates left on their Set It Off tour, so catch em live if you can and keep an eye out for their EP dropping soon.
