The true test of fame is the challenge of making a word, phrase, or acronym go viral. Many have done it in the past; Drake started the YOLO apocalypse of 2011, Lil Jon started the “Turn Down For What” movement, and thanks to 2 Chainz none of us can say the number “two” without thinking of the notorious rapper’s add lib. That being said, Pipe It Up has no meaning whatsoever, but it’s the Migos crew’s attempt at creating their own colloquial term. The Murdah beat instrumental is perfect for this trio to lay down a few hypey verses over, and the addition of Titty Boi and Young Jeezy give the song the mainstream kick it needs to get the club yelling “Pipe It Up” as a replacement for “Turn Up”. If you like Migos, you’ll love this track, cop the free DL and throw them a follow on twitter and soundcloud.

Whip It – Makonnen, Migos, & Rich The Kid

If you were alive in 2014, God knows you heard Drake and ILoveMakonnen’s Tuesday. What you probably didn’t know, is that Makonnen is actually huge in the Atlanta trap scene, and has been described as a “hot potato” that a plethora of different artists have been throwing on hooks, verses, and even samples. His unique sound – melodic off-key singing – has an unexplainable catchiness to it. That being said, this track is a perfect taste of what you can expect to hear on his latest project Drink More Water 5. Being located in the drug capital of America, it shouldn’t take long for you to realize that “Whip It” is referring to the act of whipping-up crack cocaine. Although you probably can’t relate to flipping hard drugs for money, the song still retains this anthem quality that will surely get your house party bumping. Give it a listen, if you like what you hear check out the entire project and show him some love on twitter.

Change – Migos, Rich The Kid, & Migo Bands

February 11, 2015

Download Change - Migos, Rich The Kid, & Migo Bands

With the Migos getting ready to drop their debut album in the spring (appropriately entitled YRN 2) they decide to team up with frequent collaborator Rich The Kid to build hype around the fourth installment of their Streets On Lock series. With a slow, heavily distorted instrumental the production doesn’t sound to complex but it screams Atlanta. Especially after you get some of the ATL’s rising stars to hop on the beat. Migo Bands is an artist I’ve been unfamiliar with until today, but his deep vocals on the first verse add a great contrast to his counterparts piercing voices. Following the usual game plan these artists use their time to flex on the world for a verse, using the word “Change” in just about every possible context. Hit that play button, cop the free download, and make sure to watch out for the release of Streets On Lock IV in the coming months.

Days Before Rodeo (Mixtape) – Travi$ Scott

Download Days Before Rodeo - Travi$ Scott

Travi$ Scott has changed a lot since his last project Owl Pharaoh from last Summer, from being an XXL freshman to signing with GOOD music and taking direction from talented mentors, he’s pushed his music to a new level. The first thing you’ll notice is that Mike Dean, Boi-1da, TM-88, Lex Luger, WondaGurl, Metro Boomin, DJ Dahi, J-Hill, and Fki contribute on the proudction side; dark and heavy beats, somewhere between intense experimental and H-Town hip-hop.. Travis is living up to his potential, but I feel like fans who enjoyed his more indie/soft material are going to be disappointed. It’s a different style entirely, and although I wasn’t feeling every track on the tape (Zombies, Basement Freestyle, Grey), he’s earned a lot of recognition from the rap community. I’d expect some remixes to surface in the near future, but until then enjoy the project and follow Travi$ on twitter.

Fight Night – Migos & Tyga

Download Fight Night - Migos & Tyga

With Migos you either love or hate what you hear, and today I’m lovin’ it. Although the original track features the rest of his Atlanta crew, bringing on the West Coast’s Tyga was the best move he could’ve made. The hook doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but for some reason it gets stuck in your head really easily. The dirty beat, courtesy of Stack Boy Twan, is based around a twangy bass line, coated in twerk-worthy claps and an extremely light and simple synth. If you’ve ever peeped @kinggoldchains or @migosatl on instagram than you know how breaded this duo is, cop the free download and keep this ready for the next time you flex on some fools in your Gold Lamborghini with your pet tiger riding shotty (Tyga’s instagram reference.. he also has a Rose Gold Audi R8 & Mercedes SLS AMG)
