1000 – P. Reign

Drake’s label OVO has received a lot of criticism in the past. Noisey’s parent company VICE went as far to call the label a “hit factory” for their front man, and a virtual death trap for talented artist’s careers. The fact is, the company might use it’s signees to boost Drizzy’s record sales, but the artists are also getting access to some of the best equipment and largest networks in the music industry to date, and their material doesn’t seem to be suffering at all.

P. Reign is one of the label’s best investments to date, and if you haven’t heard of him before I highly suggest you go check out some of his older material. The Toronto-based MC hasn’t released any new material since his project Off The Books dropped back in December, but I couldn’t think of a better way for him to come back into the game than with a track titled ‘1000’.

The Bass Line instrumental is a very Canada-rap style creation; ambient keys, crisp drum sequences, and the distinctly auto-tuned vocals. The delivery is aggressive, the lyrics are quotable, and the beat is fat and hypnotic. Check it out and give P. Reign a follow on Soundcloud and Twitter if you like what you hear.

If you’re your first priority, this track will be a valuable addition to your grind-mode playlist. P. Reign’s “Rich” is about being young, independent, and getting it. The OVO affiliated singer/rapper takes a Future style approach to his latest release; auto-tuned vocals, hustle-inspired verses, and anthemic hooks sound like something you’d expect to hear on DS2. Although his latest material hasn’t taken off as quickly without a Drizzy feature, P. Reign is still reaping the rewards of being affiliated with the Toronto-based record label — this song made it’s premiere on OVO Sound Radio, the most listened to radio station on iTunes’ radio. If you like what you hear, cop the free download and show P. Reign some love on twitter and soundcloud.

I’ll admit, I’m a little late with sharing this remix from Tyler Cordy, but I’ve been bumping it a lot lately and couldn’t resist sharing it with y’all. House style synth, elegant drops, clap-centered build ups, and the slightly distorted OVO accapella create a rendition of this party anthem that’s unrivaled to any others I’ve heard so far. Having listened to a lot of the other material on TYLERxCORDY’s soundcloud, I can confidently say his style is developing into an idealistic intricate sound that sounds great on any remix he tackles. Expect to see more of his music on our site in the future, and if you like what you hear be sure to follow him on twitter and add this track to your turn up playlist.

Yes We Faded – Keys N Krates & P Reign

Yes We Faded

Talented Dim Mak trio Keys n Krates gave their fans a treat today: a remix of Yes We Faded from their Every Nite EP. And hell yeah, it’s on UH, so you know it’s free. While I think listeners kind of got the idea from the ominous percussion-filled instrumental version of the track, P Reign’s hard-hitting verses provide the song with another dimension of meaning. The chorus repeats “I don’t drink no more…” followed by “Fuck it, one more, one more…”. Sometimes it feels good to just get faded. You think Keys N Krates will turn into producers for more hip-hop artists? Follow the dudes on Twitter to see what direction their music heads next.

DNF – P. Reign & Drake (Andrew Luce Remix)

December 29, 2014

Download DNF - P. Reign & Drake (Andrew Luce Remix)

The king of revamping hip-hop tracks, San Francisco’s very own Andrew Luce is back with his best fabrication yet–a rendition of Drake and P. Reign’s ‘DNF’ that makes the original OVO production look vacuous in comparison. His signature arpeggiating synth, unique sampling, clever timing, and intricate drum workings compile into a sweeping convivial remix to one of OVO’s best releases from 2014. The changes in pace and pitch clearly play towards the lyrical meaning of the song, creating the double-vision atmosphere with creative bass-heavy drops. This song is a perfect example of Luce’s complex and perspicacious production talent, be sure to give him a follow on soundcloud and twitter to show some support.
